Michigan conservation officers find dead cougar in UP

BREITUNG TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — The body of a male cougar has been found about four miles north of Iron Mountain in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The state says conservation officers came across the carcass about 11 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Johnson Road and County Road 607 in Dickinson County’s Breitung Township.

Details about the animal’s death were not released. Officials are seeking information from the public about the cougar.

The state has said there have been a number of cougar sighting reports in Michigan over the past few years.

Just received it from Ian Shakleford, Public Information Officer/U.S. Forest Service, Ottawa National Forest in the western U.P….earlier in the week I posted a story about the Black River National Forest Scenic Byway that runs through the Ottawa, being one of the top 10 scenic drives in the U.S.. Ian will join us tomorrow morning to talk about the Byway and the forest…this is really a cool place…the way I understand it it’s a great place to go fishing…I’m in! Bob Bauer’s Outdoor World, tomorrow, 10 till noon, on AM1130/ WDFN The Fan.

Outdoor Adventure Center

The crew and I want down there to check it out…when it’s done it’s going to be a great place to go. We plan on doing some shows in the Center and across the street by the river. This Saturday we’ll be broadcasting down on Belle Isle at the Dawson Great Lakes Museum. We’re hitting the road and we’ll be all over the state…
There’s a great new addition coming to the Detroit riverfront: the Outdoor Adventure Center at Atwater and Orleans. It will feature elaborate exhibits, including a rock climbing wall, a kayak simulator and an aquarium with native species of fish.

A sneak peek inside the facility, set to open in 2015: http://on.freep.com/1lZOH1Y
